Faroe Islands: Barnabati – Tú & Eg Ráðgevingin

Barnabati (The Faroese Children’s Welfare Association) is a non-governmental organization based in the Faroe Islands that works to promote and protect the rights, wellbeing and development of children and young people. Established on 22 March 1980, the organization’s work is grounded in the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Barnabati advocates for improved conditions for children and young people in the Faroe Islands and works to ensure that all children have access to the support, care and opportunities they need to thrive. Its activities include child rights advocacy, anti-bullying initiatives, public awareness campaigns and the operation of a national child counselling service.

116 111 Tú & Eg Ráðgevingin (“You & Me Counselling”) is Barnabati’s national child helpline service for children and young people across the Faroe Islands. The service provides free and anonymous counselling by telephone and through an online mailbox, and can also arrange face-to-face counselling when needed. Children and young people can contact the service for advice, guidance or simply to talk with a trusted adult. The helpline supports children experiencing issues such as family difficulties, bullying, loneliness, anxiety, depression, self-harm, abuse, sexual violence, relationship concerns, stress and suicidal thoughts. The service is staffed by trained counsellors and volunteers and operates confidentially, with callers and writers able to remain anonymous.
