Expanding Access to Child Helplines Globally

Free Our Voices Campaign

Every second, a child reaches out to a child helpline for support. Yet too often, these calls go unanswered.

Launched in 2014, the Free Our Voices campaign set out to change this, working towards a world where every child who needs help can be heard.

This video highlights the campaign’s key achievements and lasting impact. Through partnerships with global organisations such as International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and GSMA, as well as engagement with major platforms, the campaign mobilised widespread global support.

Over three years, Free Our Voices contributed to:

  • the introduction of toll-free access to child helplines in more than 20 countries
  • the establishment of new child helplines across multiple regions
  • increased adoption of harmonised child helpline numbers
  • global visibility through international events and advocacy platforms

The campaign also strengthened collaboration between child helplines and telecommunications providers, helping to embed joint awareness and online safety initiatives at national level.

Although the campaign concluded in 2017, its impact continues. Ongoing partnerships and commitments have enabled child helplines worldwide to reach more children and provide support where it is needed most.
