Voice Up Africa!

Disrupting Harm by Technology-Faciliated Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

The Voice Up Africa! project brings together seven Child Helplines in Eastern and Southern Africa in a joint effort to:

  • Contribute to the prevention of victimization and strengthening survivors’ support
  • Empowerment of children, caregivers and families to prevent technology-faciliated child sexual exploitation and abuse (TF-CSEA) and access early support
  • Strengthen national, regional and global infrastructures to effectively tackle digital harms to children.

The Voice Up Africa! project is a strategic partnership between Safe Online and Child helpline International and its member Child Helplines under the Investment Pillar A (Network and Systems).

Project Objectives

To achieve the intended impact, the following project objectives are envisaged:

The project objectives will be realized through the attainment of five interrelated outcomes namely:

  • Technical barriers to accessing child helplines are minimized.
  • High-quality child helpline services with TF-CSEA expertise in response and data management.
  • Children, caregivers, communities, survivors and their families are informed and empowered to disclose and report TF-CSEA.
  • Better integrated national networks for prevention of and protection against TF-CSEA.
  • Improved collaboration between child helplines and online platforms to combat TF-CSEA.

Central to the project is system strengthening which includes infrastructure updates, capacity-building, awareness-raising, partnerships and research.
