Statement Calling for Ban of Nudify

Child Helpline International Joins Global Call to Ban Nudifying Tools and Protect Children from Exploitation

A person wearing a hoodie holds a smartphone indoors, with overlaid text reading “Stand with us. Demand a global ban on nudifying tools. Protect children.” The image highlights concerns about online safety, image-based abuse, and the protection of children from AI-generated nudification.

Amsterdam, Netherlands – Today, on Safer Internet Day, Child Helpline International stands with over 100 organizations, institutions and individuals globally to demand urgent action against nudifying tools—technology designed to create non-consensual nude and abusive imagery, disproportionately targeting children and women.

These tools fuel sexual exploitation, extortion, and harm, yet remain widely accessible with impunity. Together with Child Helpline International, INHOPE – Association of Internet Hotline Providers, the Internet Watch Foundation, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), Offlimits, Safe Online and We Protect Global Alliance, we call for:

  • Global recognition of the irreparable harm these tools inflict.
  • Accountability for tech companies to implement safety-by-design protections
  • Legal bans on development, distribution, and use of nudifying apps and functionalities.

Across our global network, we're seeing increasing reports to our child helpline members about children and young people who have been targeted through nudifying tools. These tools are not a ‘virtual’ problem; for children, they facilitate real harm by facilitating coercion, extortion, and sexual abuse in the real world. That is why we are calling for urgent action to address this harm at its root cause and prevent many more children and young people from becoming victims.

Nudifying tools pose an immediate and irreversible risk to children. Governments and technology companies must act—but they must also hear from those committed to child protection.
