“The priority goal is to ensure that children are free from all kinds of abuse and able to realise and enjoy their right to protection.” says Rashid Javed, Country Director for Plan International Uganda.
The Sauti helpline received a donation of USD 50,000 from Plan Uganda and the European Union. Valuable equipment needed for the helpline to survive was included, such as computers, desks, chairs, telephone handsets and motorcycles. The most important part of the donation was a one year unlimited internet subscription. This is essential for strengthening a helpline and will continue the motivational work performed by counsellors. Another crucial part of the donation was that it was in collaboration with the Ugandan government, which shows how important it is for the government to support the helpline to create a safe haven for children.
